An Original Vintage Linenbacked Circus Poster (measures 28 1/2" x 42") (Learn More) Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Combined Circus, a 1935 poster featuring an image of Tim McCoy ("Presenting Col. Tim McCoy, screen's greatest western star"; "The man who made children toss aside skip-ropes for lariats and change from rompers to chaps"). Note that Tim McCoy left Hollywood in 1935 and, at that time, joined The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Combined Circus. He was a great success drawing crowds in that circus, and he soon left it to form his own "Wild West Show", and unfortunately, due to the fact that the nation was hitting the heights of the Great Depression, his own show did poorly. Given this, we know this poster to be from 1935, even though it is not dated. If anyone knows more about this poster, please contact us and we will post it here. The modern version of the circus started in 1919 when the Barnum & Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth, a circus created by P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey, was merged with the Ringling Bros. World's Greatest Shows. With weakening attendance and high operating costs, the circus closed on May 21st, 2017 after 146 years. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has a wonderful stone litho image of Tim McCoy, with wonderful taglines, and two great stone litho images of a boy and a girl in children's cowboy outfits! Condition: good to very good. The poster had creases and fine surface paper loss on most foldlines and many creases, tears, and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was simply glued to a very thin linen backing, with no excess around the edges, and over the years since, it has picked up many additional small tears around the edges, and is "lifting" from the thin linen. If I owned this great poster, I would immediately have it removed from the thin linen, and properly linenbacked. After linenbacking by a top professional, the poster will look fantastic, and there will be little paint restoration anywhere in the image! Learn More about condition grades
