An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Letter, the classic 1940 William Wyler (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Singapore romantic love triangle murder blackmail crime film noir ("Fascinating, tantalizing and dangerous!"; based on the novel "by W. Somerset Maugham"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about an unfaithful wife of a Singapore rubber plantation owner who is spurned by her lover and shoots him, and then pretends it was an accident, and she almost gets away with it, but there is a letter she wrote that is incriminating, but can she get the letter destroyed, and what will her husband think?) starring Bette Davis (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Herbert Marshall (who had a lesser role in the 1929 version of this film), James Stephenson (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Frieda Inescort, Gale Sondergaard, and Victor Sen Yung NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. The poster had a thin strip of tiny paper loss at the top crossfold and creases, tears, and tiny paper loss in the top quarter of the vertical foldline. There were creases, tears, and thin paper loss across the bottom foldline, and some stains in the left of the bottom foldline, but fortunately, that area is in between Davis' credit and the title. There was scuffing and surface paper loss in the bottom of the letters of the word "Letter". There was some creases, tears, pinholes, stains, and smudges around the edges of the poster and some stains and smudges in the white background areas. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was not very well backed at all, with no excess linen, and very rudimentary restoration was done, and it is noticeable (but fortunately, it is mostly in the white background areas). If I owned this great poster, I would immediately have a talented restorer remove it from the linen and properly re-back it, and since most of the defects are in the borders and in the blank background areas, the poster would not require much paint restoration within the image, and after it is properly re-backed, the poster will look fantastic!
