Date Sold 8/2/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan's Murder Cruise, the 1940 Eugene Forde mystery crime thriller ("Chan's best friend murdered! ... and clutched in his fingers -- Chan's only clue --- thirty pieces of silver!"; "Cunning, callous, cold-blooded killer challenges Charlie Chan! ...leaving on each victim a calling card of crimson coin - thirty pieces of silver!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers"; "Based on the story 'Charlie Chan Carries On' by Earl Derr Biggers"; since this was the name of the very first Warner Oland Charlie Chan, then this movie was a re-make of that movie!) starring Sidney Toler (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Marjorie Weaver, Lionel Atwill, Victor Sen Yung (billed as "Sen Yung"; as Jimmy Chan), Robert Lowery, Don Beddoe, Leo G. Carroll (billed as "Leo Carroll"), Cora Witherspoon, Kay Linaker, Harlan Briggs, Layne Tom, Jr. (as Willie Chan, "No. 8 Son"; he had previously played "Charlie Chan Jr." in "Charlie Chan at the Olympics"), Leonard Mudie, and James Burke. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good to fine. There is a tiny tear in the left of the top blank border that was repaired with a tiny piece of tape from the back. There is a tiny stain in the bottom right blank corner, with a few minor creases around the edges. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
