An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 3 3/4" x 5 1/2" [10 x 14 cm]; 6 pages) (Learn More)

The King of Jazz, the 1930 John Murray Anderson musical ("A Universal all Technicolor picture"; produced by Carl Laemmle Jr.) starring Paul Whiteman and His Band, Laura La Plante, John Boles, Glenn Tryon, Jeanette Loff, and "The Sisters G." (Eleanor Gutohrlein and Karla Gutohrlein; a pair of German twins that were brought from Berlin to appear in this movie; they had Louise Brooks-like haircuts and only appeared in four movies). Note that this movie contains a bit of animation done by Walter Lantz, and is the first Technicolor animation ever produced! Also, note that early big studio musicals often featured acts from different European and Spanish-speaking countries which were spliced into the already completed film for foreign language markets. This movie had several different foreign language versions (French, Hungarian, Spanish, etc) but none of them survive today. Bela Lugosi, who had just been hired by Universal to star in Dracula, emceed the Hungarian version and we have seen a single still featuring Lugosi alongside Paul Whiteman.
