An Original Vintage Trade Ad (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More)

The Mistress of the World (Die Herrin der Welt) is an eight-part 1919 German silent film series starring Mia May in the lead role and distributed by UFA. The film, under the creative control of director Joe May (husband of Mia May), is noted for bringing together talent from across German cinema. The story follows a young Danish woman on her globe-trotting adventures to find the legendary lost treasure of the Queen of Sheba that she hopes will enable her to bring revenge on the man that caused her father to commit suicide and led to her own social destruction. In 1922, Paramount re-edited the series into 4 films for the U.S. audience. While the original series was intended to be a mix of adventure, melodrama and comedy, the American edit concentrated on the action.
