An Unfolded Russian Travel Poster (measures 24 3/4" x 35 3/4" [63 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Intourist was founded in 1929 and served as the primary travel agency for foreign tourists in the Soviet Union. As such, it was often staffed by NKVD and later KGB officials. During the late Stalin era, the number of foreigners visiting the Soviet Union was very low as state officials actively discouraged travelers. After Stalin's death, tourism was allowed again, and by the early 1970s, there were 4,000,000 travelers yearly. The company was privatized in 1992. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned one example of this poster before! Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. There are circular patches of discoloration at lower right (see our image). There are a few fine creases scattered in the poster but otherwise it is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
