An Original Vintage Theatrical 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Rex Ingram was born in 1895. He was one of the first black African American actors to achieve fame in mainstream movies of the 1930s and 1940s, and he also starred in some of the most important all-black movies of that time. He is best remembered for three roles: as "the Djinn" in "The Thief of Bagdad", as "De Lawd" [God] in "Green Pastures", and as "Lucifer Jr" [The Devil] in "Cabin in the Sky". Ingram passed away in 1969 at the age of 73. Note that was another major early Hollywood celebrity named Rex Ingram was a director of important early silents, and there is no connection between the two, although they are sometimes confused. It is the director Rex Ingram who has a star on the "Hollywood Walk of Fame", while the actor Rex Ingram does not, and that is very sad, considering the many hundreds of lesser celebrities who DO have their own star.

You can learn much more about Rex Ingram by visiting the following link! Against the Grain: Black Film Pioneers: Part VII: Rex Ingram
Important Added Info: Note that this still measures 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm].

Condition: good to very good. There is a diagonal strip of slight darkening running from the upper left to the lower right, caused by the snipe glued to the back.
