An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28") (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, the classic 1958 Alfred Hitchcock San Francisco California suspense obsessive love crime mystery thriller ("Alfred Hitchcock's Masterpiece"; "Based upon the novel D'Entre Les Morts by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac"; "Music by Bernard Herrmann"; about a man with a fear of heights who is caught up in a murder, or is he?, and he meets a woman who looks very similar to the "dead girl", and he becomes obsessed with solving the mystery) starring James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart), Kim Novak (in a dual role), Barbara Bel Geddes, Tom Helmore, and Henry Jones. Note that John Whitney Sr. (who did the spiral title sequence for the movie) also did the spiral art for the posters from this movie, which was utilized by the poster artist Saul Bass. Also note that Alfred Hitchcock did not make a final decision on what to name this movie until the last minute! At various times, it had working titles of Darkling I Listen, Fear and Trembling, From Among the Dead, and Illicit Darkening. Many of the early advertising stills don't have a title at all, but say "An Alfred Hitchcock Production". Personally, we think "Vertigo" is a better title than any of those other four! Finally, note that critical acclaim for this movie has consistently risen in the years since it was first released. In fact, in the 2012 "Sight and Sound" poll of top movie critics, Vertigo was declared to be the number one film of all time, over Citizen Kane, and every other masterpiece! Artist: Saul Bass Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Most collectors don't realize that Saul Bass did many different designs for this classic movie! All look very similar, with the classic swirl, but the two figures are different on many of the posters! Condition: good to very good. The poster is slightly discolored and there are a few pairs of staple holes and tack holes scattered throughout. There is a small stain in the background at left and there are minor creases throughout the poster. The top border of the poster was folded back at one time and there are some small pieces of tape on the front and back of the edges and there are a few small tears in the borders around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster is in pretty nice condition but a talented restorer could surely greatly improve the appearance of this poster through paperbacking. Since the discoloration (which is pretty minor) could probably be removed through chemical means, the poster would look great (although I can imagine many collectors would be quite happy with it as is!).
