A 1939 Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Randy Rides Alone, the 1934 Harry Fraser cowboy western (from the story by Lindsley Parsons; the movie has Wayne as an undercover investigator sent to find a gang of outlaws, but he goes to a hideout they supposedly were staying in, and he finds many dead bodies, at which point the local sheriff shows up and arrests him for those murders!) starring John Wayne (in the title role as Randy Bowers), Alberta Vaughn, George 'Gabby' Hayes, Yakima Canutt, and Earl Dwire
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three examples of this 1939 re-release one-sheet (and NO first release one-sheets), and the last one was 9 years ago, when it sold for $550!

Also note that after John Wayne's huge success in "Stagecoach" in 1939, Monogram Pictures re-released all of his mid-1930s Monogram westerns, and created all new one-sheets for those re-releases. In almost all cases, these 1939 re-release posters are quite scarce and extremely difficult to obtain, and in most cases, the first release one-sheets are beyond rare and almost never sold!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss at the middle crossfold, with some small tears and tiny paper loss on parts of the folds. It had some smudges. The bottom blank border was trimmed off, and there was small paper loss in the center of the top blank border and some smudges scattered in the right blank border. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, and the bottom blank border was replaced, but the other border defects were mostly left as they are, with only slight attempts at restoration.
