Appears in John Wayne Movie Posters at Auction CATALOG SOLD OUT The image at right appears in the auction catalog we published as shown above and was sold long ago and we do NOT have it available for purchase. An Undated (probably 1939) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Paradise Canyon, the 1935 Carl Pierson border cowboy western (from the story by Lindsley Parsons) starring John Wayne, Marion Burns, Reed Howes, Yakima Canutt, Earle Hodgins, Gino Corrado, Perry Murdock, and Gordon Clifford NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that lobby cards from 1930s John Wayne Lone Star westerns are extremely rare (in some cases almost as rare as the posters, which is very unusual for any 1930s movies!). Perhaps next-to-no theaters ordered lobby cards for these B-western movies. Only a very few lobby cards that solely list Lone Star have ever surfaced, and some of those are 1940s re-releases, but some of them seem to surely be from the original 1935 release. In 1935, Monogram acquired the rights to these earlier John Wayne Lone Star westerns and re-released them somewhere between 1935 and 1939, but no one I am aware of has been able to date them any more closely. These "Monogram" lobby cards have only Monogram on them (and not Lone Star, as some of the re-releases from other 1930s John Wayne movies do), and they are also incredibly rare (on this title, Paradise Canyon, we have only previously auctioned four lobby cards over our many years, and all our of those were from the "Lone Star/Monogram" release like this one, and we have never auctioned a 1935 Lone Star lobby card)! Condition: good to very good. much pencil scribbling over Wayne and the girl's bodies extending into the girl's cheek; two light pencil lines drawn from the bad man's eyes (one to the girl and one to the edge of Wayne's figure); I don't know how easy or difficult it would be for a restorer to remove these pencil marks; a fairly deep semi-circular scratch mark in the top right of the image area; pinholes, smudges, and creases all around the edges of the card; While this rare and desirable card has very real defects, it is also quite possible that restoration can greatly improve the appearance. However, we make no guarantees, and we ask you to please not bid on this card unless you can accept its clear defects or are willing to have them restored! Learn More about condition grades
