An Original Vintage English Linenbacked Trade Ad (measures 11" x 16 1/2" [28 x 42 cm]) (Learn More) the double-bill release ("We dare you to see Dracula with Bela Lugosi and Frankenstein with Boris Karloff"; "We dare you to see them together"; "The double horror show of the century Can You Take It?") of Dracula, the classic 1931 Tod Browning Universal vampire monster horror thriller ("The Greatest of all Horror Thrillers"; based on the classic novel and play by Bram Stoker) starring Bela Lugosi (in the title role as Count Dracula), David Manners, Dwight Frye (if there had been a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award in 1931, Frye would have surely won it for his wild over-the-top portrayal as Renfield!), Helen Chandler, and Edward Van Sloan (as Professor Abraham Van Helsing) AND Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive, Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles Important Added Info: Note that this two-page trade ad appeared in an English exhibitor magazine in the 1940s (we don't know the exact date). The ad had printing on the reverse, and the person who backed it wisely used black rice paper behind it rather than white rice paper, because that makes the "bleed-through" from the writing on the back far less than it would be had they used white paper (see our image). Also note that because of the size of this trade ad, it could be sent rolled in a tube, or it could be sent in a large flat package (which would make sense to do if the winning bidder has other large flat items to combine it with). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The trade ad had some bleed-through from printing on the back that shows through to the front. It shows through to the front in the black background (more so in the top half of the ad), and in Dracula's hair. It is clearly noticeable, but not all that distracting. It also had some tears and small paper loss around the edges. Overall, the trade ad was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The trade ad was well backed, but you can still see the bleed-through described above. Learn More about condition grades
