An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47 3/4" x 63 3/4" [121 x 162 cm]) (Learn More) Dedee d'Anvers (released in the U.S. in 1949 as "Dedee" and also as "Woman of Antwerp"), the 1948 Yves Allegret French romantic love triangle prostitution sex crime murder thriller ("No picture has ever dared... ...To tell the story of a woman like Dedee"; "and only the French would dare film it!"; "From the story by Ashelbe"; about a prostitute working in a French nightclub, and she meets a man she falls in love with, but her pimp will not let her get away from him) starring Simone Signoret (in the title role as Dedee D'Anvers), Bernard Blier, Marcello Pagliero (billed as "Marcel Pagliero"), Marcel Dalio (billed as "Dalio"), and Marcel Dieudonne NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Clement Hurel Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Note that this item (and others we are auctioning in this set of auctions) come to us from the estate of Lee Sanders. Mr. Sanders was a nationally recognized projectionist, film poster collector, and union activist who passed away earlier this year, and the net proceeds from the sale of his varied and eclectic collection will be donated to promote film studies at the Besant School of Happy Valley in Ojai, Ca. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tiny paper loss at several crossfolds and darkening on parts of many foldlines. It had unfortunate staining in Signoret's face and body (see our image). Someone backed the poster onto a paper backing and did virtually no restoration. If I owned this cool poster, I would surely have it removed from the paper backing and linenbacked, but it absolutely would require restoration in Signet's face and figure (although some of the staining and darkening might be removable through chemical means). Please bear all of the above in mind before placing a bid on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
