A 1951 Realart Re-release Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Thirty by Forty Movie Poster (30x40; measures 27 3/4" x 37 3/4") (Learn More) Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Warning! The monster is loose!"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive (as Dr. Herbert V. Frankenstein), Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 27 3/4" x 37 3/4". Condition: good. Many years ago, someone took the poster and trimmed it slightly on all four sides and mounted it onto a 1/2" thick piece of plywood that is quite heavy. They used some sort of black tape on all four sides to create a black border. There are many scuffs in the blue background areas of the poster, and in the windmill image at middle left. There are some stains in the tagline at top left, and scuffs in the orange background areas at the top of the poster. There is wear at all four corners in both the poster and the wood, as can be seen in our image. Clearly, this poster has many defects, but it is also true that it displays really great just as it is (especially because the great Frankenstein image is mostly in pretty nice condition, with the exception of smudges and scuffs in his chin). It is also certainly true that a restorer could touch up this poster, BUT WE KNOW THAT IT CAN'T BE REMOVED FROM THE WOOD BACKING WITHOUT MASSIVE EXPENSE (we know this because we auctioned it before and the buyer sent it to a restorer who said it would cost too much to even consider). THEREFORE, PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT IT JUST AS IT IS, OR ARE WILLING TO SOLELY HAVE IT SLIGHTLY TOUCHED UP AS IT IS, BUT DO NOT EXPECT TO HAVE IT REMOVED FROM THE BACKING. In spite of its defects described above, it is certainly one of the most visually impressive horror posters I have ever seen! Learn More about condition grades
