An Original Vintage Italian Campaign Book (measures 9 1/2" x 13" [24 x 33 cm]; 68 pages) (Learn More) La Societa Anonima Stefano Pittaluga Presenta Produzione 1934-35-XIII (literally translates to "The Limited Company Stefano Pittaluga Presents Production 1934-35-XIII"), the 1934 Italian hardcover campaign book featuring information and images from upcoming movies produced or distributed by Stefano Pittaluga. Some of the movies include: Man of Aran, Lot in Sodom, Ecstasy (Hedy Lamarr), Jud Suss, Das Blaue Licht (Blue Light), Son of Kong, Little Women (Katharine Hepburn), Flying Down to Rio, P.A. Powers Comicolor Cartoons, and more. Note that this studio distributed U.S. RKO films in Italy, and also films from other countries, and this book contains a remarkable number of ads for famous movies, ads that we have never seen before! Of the greatest interest to us is the two-page ad for an Italian movie, "Melodramma", which was made in 1934, but the ad in this book says that it is directed by Fritz Lang, and although the movie was made, he did not direct it! This is because after leaving Germany, he spent a year in Paris, where he made one movie, and he apparently meant to make this movie in Italy, but chose to go to the U.S. instead! Because the book is from before World War II, a time when virtually no Italian paper exists, this book itself is surely incredibly rare, and it is the only studio yearbook from Italy from before World War II that we have auctioned! Note that Stefano Pittaluga was one of the main Italian film producers in the late 1920s. Like his U.S. counterparts had done in the 1910s, he started out as an owner of many theaters, and he used that to gain Italian distribution to many Hollywood movies, and then he went into film production, making many commercially successful movies, including ones with Maciste and Samson (Sansone). He produced the first Italian sound movie and was the dominant film producer in Italy at that time, but Pittaluga sadly died in 1932, although his studio continued. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note: We have 15 images of this campaign book, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 15 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 5. Condition: very good. The book is in really nice condition. The cover has a sticker glued to it, which gives the title and there is a small area of paper loss in that sticker that affects the text, but other than this defect, the book is in excellent condition!
