An Original 1945 (from the first release of this movie in Australia) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 10" x 29 1/2" [25 x 75 cm]) (Learn More) I Love a Soldier, the 1944 Mark Sandrich World War II (WWII) Home Front romantic military melodrama ("The story of 10,000,000 American Girls"; "The stars of 'So Proudly We Hail' together again!"; "Written by Allan Scott") starring Paulette Goddard, Sonny Tufts, Beulah Bondi, Barry Fitzgerald ("New Star Sensation of 'Going My Way'"), Walter Sande, Mary Treen, and Ann Doran NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Richardson Studio Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three examples of this Australian daybill, and the last one was 12 years ago! The buyer of that last example has now reconsigned it to us, so this is still only one of three examples we have ever auctioned! Note that this is one of an amazing collection of 62 linenbacked Australian daybills that all have great art from Richardson Studio (or John Richardson, before he became "Richardson Studio"!), which many collectors feel have the best art and design of any Australian daybills, and are highly sought after by collectors. These were accumulated by a very dedicated collector over many years, and they are now being all offered at once (in 62 separate auctions), so this is a wonderful opportunity to obtain one or many of these daybills, many of which rarely are offered for sale or at auction. Also note that for a brief time during World War II (WWII) Australia printed their daybills in a 10" x 30" format (no doubt to conserve on paper, because they had been printing daybills in a 15" x 40" size, and by going to 10" x 30", they were able to print four daybills with the same amount of paper they used to print two!). The poster is NOT trimmed! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had somewhat minor fold and border wear and was in "very good" condition prior to linenbacking. Sadly, the poster was both roughly handled (causing two long creases within the image, both in the poster and in the linen), but much more important, the poster came in contact with moisture and it has dried out and is now creased and rippled throughout. The poster has really major defects, so bear this in mind before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
