An Unfolded Commercial Poster (made to be sold directly to the public; measures 19 3/4" x 25 1/2" [50 x 65 cm]) (Learn More) Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. and nicknamed "The Greatest") was the most famous boxer from the 1960s to the 1980s (in 1999, he was named the most famous sports celebrity of the entire 20th century). Ali is the first and only three-time lineal World Heavyweight Champion. Some of his movies include: Freedom Road, The Greatest, and When We Were Kings. He was as famous for his activities outside the ring, including his refusal to serve in Vietnam (he was a "conscientious objector"), his conversion to being Muslim, and his long devotion to that faith, and his political activism! He passed away in 2016 at the age of 74. We will not see his like again! Artist: George Lois/Carl Fischer Important Added Info: Note that this is one of the most iconic images of the 1960s. In 1968, photographer George Lois shot this image of Muhammad Ali for the cover of Esquire Magazine. It is a parody of a famous religious image of St. Sebastian, who was killed for his commitment to Christ by Roman soldiers, and of course, Lois was comparing Ali to that saint, because of his refusal to serve in the military during Vietnam. The cover was extremely controversial, and it was sold as a commercial poster! Condition: good to very good. The poster was rolled too tightly, and there is a series of partial horizontal creases across the poster every 1 1/2". They are more noticeable in the left and right edges, and they are not all that distracting (see our image). Otherwise, the poster only has very minor border wear. Learn More about condition grades
