An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Outside the Law, the 1920 Tod Browning silent romantic family relationship crime thriller ("My heart stood still but for Billy's sake I forced myself to go through with it"; "Priscilla Dean supported by Lon Chaney in Tod Browning's stupendous melodrama"; "Universal-Jewel super production"; about the daughter of a reformed crook who had been helping her father, but she reforms as well, but when he father goes back to jail, she falls in with another jewel thief, played by Chaney, but it is not until later that she learns that Chaney has framed her father) starring Priscilla Dean, Lon Chaney Sr. (in a dual role where he plays both a jewel thief named "Black Mike" Sylva, and also a Chinese man!), Wheeler Oakman, Ralph Lewis, E. Alyn Warren, Stanley Goethals, Melbourne MacDowell, and Wilton Taylor. Note that Tod Browning had intended to remake this movie in 1930 as a sound movie with Chaney in the starring role, but Chaney died, and Browning remade it with Edward G. Robinson instead! Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this window card, and that was 13 years ago, when it sold for $702! That window card has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! Note that this poster has been "gel backed". What does that mean? It means that a talented restorer backed the poster onto a gel material, and they then performed restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, and afterward the poster still looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. Many collectors prefer this method of restoration to paperbacking or linenbacking, because with those methods the poster no longer looks like it was not backed. Gel backing can't be used with posters that have major paper loss or other major defects, but for the posters it can be used on, it is really an excellent method of restoration! What IS gelbacking? Learn More Condition: very good. The card had some brown water stains in the lower right of the handcuffs, and a few similar stains scattered around the edges of the card (primarily in the white borders). There were similar stains scattered on the back of the card, but they did not affect the front of the card. There was a 2" vertical scuff mark in the top right black background area and a 2" vertical scratch starting at the bottom of Chaney's jaw and running down to the top of the second "M" of "LAEMMLE", with a few other minor tiny scratches and scuffs scattered in the image. Other than the above, the card was in surprisingly nice condition. The card was professionally cleaned and flattened, and slight restoration was done to some of the stains in the blank borders, and very slight touch up to a very few of the tiny image defects. The card is NOT backed, and will display magnificently on the new owner's wall! Learn More about condition grades
