Date Sold 3/31/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1949 (from the first release of this movie in Austria) Vintage Austrian Film Program (measures 6" x 8 1/4" [15 x 21 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) Keep 'Em Flying, the 1941 Arthur Lubin pre-World War II (WWII) military United States Army Air Corps Air Force airplane aviation pilot screwball comedy ("Those big guns o' fun in a roaring salute to the Army Air Corps"; "You'll Bail out of your seat Laughing!"; "Original Story by Edmund L. Hartmann"; about a pair of bumbling stunt pilots who join the Army Air Corps) starring Bud Abbott, Lou Costello (Abbott and Costello), Martha Raye, Carol Bruce, William Gargan, Dick Foran, Charles Lang, and The Six Hits (a singing group that changed its number of members, and occasionally had a female member, at which point they would become "...and a Miss"). Note that this was Abbott and Costello's sixth movie together in a short time, and this time, The Andrews Sisters were not in the cast, but Martha Raye was. The timing for the movie was good, because it was made just weeks before Pearl Harbor, and of course, cinemas would soon be flooded with war movies! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that, immediately after World War II, the U.S. occupied Japan and part of Germany, and many American movies were shown in both countries between 1945 and the end of the occupation. Most of the Japanese posters we have seen from that period and many of the German programs from the same period have a "Motion Picture Export Association" circular printed logo on the poster or program, and apparently this was a program run in conjunction with the U.S. government. Since there were many U.S. servicemen in Japan and Germany at this time, many of these posters and programs have the title written in both Japanese (or German) and in English, and they are from the first release of that movie in that country. This is an Austrian program that has the same Motion Picture Export Association logo, so we assume they also distributed the movies to Austria in that same time period. Also note that we have provided an image of all the pages of this 4-page program (we did this by opening it and laying it flat and photographing the front and back cover together, and the interior two pages together). This way, you see the entire program, and can well determine the exact condition of it from our super-sized image. But of course this means that the front cover appears in the top right of our image, but normally, the program would be folded down the center and you would view the cover by itself (and it will be sent folded as was originally intended). Note that on January 6th of this year we auctioned a mostly single owner collection of 551 German and Austrian programs, that included many rare and wonderful titles, but now we have been consigned (from a new consignor) 128 German and Austrian programs which include some programs that are duplicates of ones we auctioned on January 6th, but which also includes a large number of programs which we have never auctioned before, including many rare and wonderful titles (especially super-rare pre-World War II titles from both countries, and some scarce titles from during World War II and from immediately after)! If you have the slightest interest in these, be sure to look over all of the 128 programs we are currently offering. We promise you won't be disappointed! Condition: good. There are some faint yellow stains scattered in the program. Learn More about condition grades
