An Original Vintage Linenbacked French World War I (WWI) Poster (measures 31 3/4" x 44 3/4") (Learn More) La Journee Serbe (literally translates to "Serbian Day"), the 1916 French World War I (WWI) Serbian Relief Fund charity poster promoting the June 25th event which commemorated the Anniversary of the 1915 Battle of Kosovo, and featuring Dominique Charles Fouqueray artwork of the Great Retreat (showing the remnants of the Serbian army, King Peter and many refugees fleeing from their homeland). Note that over 200,000 thousand Serbs died of cold and hunger during the Great Retreat in the winter of 1915-1916, and Serbian Day was organized in Paris for the benefit of the Serbian Relief Fund. Artist: Dominique Charles Fouqueray Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster had minor wear on the foldlines and some creases and smudges in the borders. There was a tiny area of paper loss in the top of the left blank border. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and looks great! The poster was backed onto a very thin linen, and it must be handled with more care than most linenbacked posters. Learn More about condition grades
