He typically wears a sailor suit with a cap and a black or red bow tie and is well-known for his semi-intelligible speech and his mischievous and irritable personality. He had his own series of cartoons, and in the 1940s, he became even more popular than Mickey Mouse! He had a long-suffering girlfriend, Daisy Duck, and three "nephews", Huey, Dewey, and Louie, but no reference was ever made to the nephews' parents! Note that in the 1930s, Whitman Publishing had great success with "Big Little Books", and the similar "Better Little Books".
