A Linenbacked Advertising Poster (measures 14 1/4" x 23" [36 x 58 cm]) (Learn More) Scribner's Magazine was an American periodical published by the publishing house of Charles Scribner's Sons from January of 1887 to May of 1939. It was the first of any magazine to introduce color illustrations. The magazine contained many works by famous artists of the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as articles by important authors of the time, including John Thomason, Elisabeth Woodbridge Morris, Clarence Cook, and President Theodore Roosevelt. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had minor wear on the fold. It had stains, tears and areas of paper loss around the edges, with paper loss extending into the bottom right of the image, but solely in the blank background. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
