An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Jumbo Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Klondike Annie, the 1936 Raoul Walsh Alaska/California interracial romance romantic gambling crime murder melodrama ("Nome was never like this... Till Mae hit town!"; "From a play by Mae West and a story by Marion Morgan and George B. Dowell"; a really wild story where Mae West is an entertainer in San Francisco's Chinatown, and she is being blackmailed into having an affair by the owner of the club she works at, who is Asian, and she kills him and goes on the run, and meets a missionary who dies, and West takes her place and pretends to be a missionary and goes to Alaska, and she also is romanced by Victor McLaglen, and there is much more to the story!) starring Mae West (in the title role), Victor McLaglen, Philip Reed, Helen Jerome Eddy, Harry Beresford, Harold Huber, and Tetsu Komai. Note that while this was a movie made a couple years after the Production Code was in place, it broke many of its rules, and it is a mystery how it got made. It also has much anti-Asian racism, and that likely accounts for why the movie is little seen in recent years. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1936 movie paper from this early Mae West movie is extremely scarce. The only poster we have auctioned from this movie before receiving this jumbo window card was a "Leader Press" one-sheet, and that was not a studio issued poster, so this is the only studio issued poster we have ever auctioned. Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had its blank top trimmed off, slightly affecting the very top edge of the image. It had nail holes in the corners and some creases and scuffs scattered in the image. Overall, the jumbo window card was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was expertly backed, and the blank top area was expertly replaced, and the poster displays fantastically!
