A 1953 Re-Release Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Out of the Past (released in other English-speaking countries as "Build My Gallows High"), the classic 1947 Jacques Tourneur romantic love triangle revenge crime film noir thriller ("A Man - Trying to run away from his past... A Woman - Trying to escape her future!" "'Don't try to get rid of me for another woman... ...it won't work!"'; based on the novel 'Build My Gallows High' by Daniel Mainwaring; a great story of a private investigator who is hired by a gangster to find his missing mistress, and he does so, but then he falls for her, and starts a romance with her, even though he knows he is likely signing his death warrant) starring Robert Mitchum, Jane Greer, Kirk Douglas (in his third movie role!), Rhonda Fleming, Richard Webb, Steve Brodie, Dickie Moore, Virginia Huston, Paul Valentine, and Ken Niles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this movie was Kirk Douglas' third movie ever, and he really made an impression on audiences in a relatively small, but important, role. The people who made the posters for the first release did not know this, of course, and Douglas is billed but not pictured on the posters, and is only on one of the lobby cards. After Douglas achieved great success in the early 1950s, this classic film noir movie was re-released to theaters in 1953, and Kirk Douglas was given deservedly equal billing to the other three stars in the credits. However, for the lobby card set, the scenes from the original set were re-used, so Douglas still only appears in one of the cards. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster has some tiny creases on the folds and a 4" tear and a 5" tear in the left and right of the top border, and both have tape on the back. It has tears and tiny paper loss in the upper left blank border, and someone put pieces of tape on the back of those tears, and also tape on the back of the left and right of the folds, where there was separation. There are staple holes in the top and bottom. Someone performed some slight amateur restoration to tears or pinholes, where there was slight color loss, but otherwise, the poster has not been restored. It can be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or certainly one could choose to have professional restoration performed. Learn More about condition grades
