A Linenbacked English Travel Poster (measures 25" x 39 1/2" [64 x 100 cm]) (Learn More)

Cunard Line is a British-American cruise line from 1840 to the present. It was founded by Samuel Cunard and featured the fastest trans-Atlantic steam ship of the time (which held the record for 30 years). The company remained primarily for mail carriage until after World War II (WWII) when the company reformed as a passenger fleet and today still maintains three of the largest cruise ships in the world.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this English travel poster! Also note that this poster features artwork of the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth cruise ships. The Queen Mary sailed primarily on the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967. The ship is now permanently moored as a tourist attraction in Long Beach, California. The Queen Elizabeth was launched in 1938 and held the record for largest passenger liner for over 50 years. In 1970 she was sold to a Hong Kong businessman who intended to convert the ship into a floating university. In 1972, unknown arsonists set the ship on fire in Hong Kong while it was being updated, and she capsized due to the water used to fight the fire. The wreck was featured in the 1974 James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun, as a covert headquarters for MI6. If anyone knows more about the exact date of this circa 1950s poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Know that there are many much later reprints of this poster, but this is the rare first release travel poster.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had a few creases and scuffs scattered in the image, with a few tears in the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
