An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Anna Sten was a Russian/Swedish (born in Kiev, what is now Ukraine) actress from the 1920s to the 1950s. Samuel Goldwyn saw her in a German movie, and thought she could become another Garbo or Dietrich, and he signed her to a Hollywood contract, not knowing she could not speak English! After a year of intensive English studying, Goldwyn cast her as the lead in "Nana", but the movie was not very successful, and Goldwyn made two more movies with her, but then gave up, and she only made a handful more movies. Some of her movies include: Devushka s Korobkoy, So Ends Our Night, The Wedding Night, Bomben auf Monte Carlo, and We Live Again. She passed away in 1993 at the age of 84. Important Added Info: Note that someone wrote "by Hurrell" on the back of the still in pencil, and given the great lighting and composition of the still, we find that this makes perfect sense! Also note that this still measures 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm]. Note that this still has a stamp on the back in the form of a diamond that has the letters "TRR". One certainly might wonder who placed this stamp there and why. The answer is that the still (and many others we are auctioning in this set of auctions) come to us from a still collector who has collected for many decades, and long ago he began stamping the back of his stills with this stamp, and "TRR" is his initials! Each of the stills is stamped lightly, and the stamp does NOT affect the front of the still. He is a VERY advanced collector, and he has consigned many wonderful stills to us!
