Date Sold 2/19/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Autographed Contract Agreement (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More) Irving G. Thalberg was a producer, writer and director from the 1920s to the 1930s. In 1920 at 21, he became an executive at Universal Studios, which was then the number one movie studio. He did well there, but he had a failed romance with owner Carl Laemmle's daughter, which likely caused him to leave the studio, and he signed with Louis B. Mayer. When Mayer joined with Metro to form MGM, Thalberg rose in the ranks at the new combined studio and helped turn MGM into the number one studio. He married actress Norma Shearer, and greatly helped her career at MGM. While he made most of the decisions at MGM, he took no screen credit, except on a single movie! Tragically, he died in 1936 of pneumonia, at just 37. Important Added Info: Note that this contract agreement has been personally autographed (signed) by Irving Thalberg! He signed for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (the contract agreement is on MGM Studios stationery), and "Vice-President" is stamped under his name. Note that this is one of a wonderful group of nine similar contract agreements we were consigned, which we are auctioning in nine separate auctions. Our consignor purchased them decades ago from a reputable dealer, and given that they are contracts which MUST be signed by the actual person, we feel 100% certain they all have genuine autographs, although none have certificates of authenticity. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased (although we prefer they do any "authenticating" while the auction is "live" and before they place a bid) and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
