Appears in Vintage Hollywood Posters 9 CATALOG SOLD OUT The image at right appears in the auction catalog we published as shown above and was sold long ago and we do NOT have it available for purchase. An Original Vintage Theatrical 24-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 9' x 20') (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's Spellbound, the 1945 Alfred Hitchcock (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) amnesia romantic psychological suspense thriller ("This is love!"; "Complete... Reckless... Violent!"; "Forever ...Irresistibly Spellbound!"; "Irresistible their love! Inescapable their fears!"; "The Maddest Love that ever possessed a woman"; "These two together to hold you"; "Screenplay by Ben Hecht"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; a strange story of an amnesiac in a hospital who is discovered to be posing as a doctor, but when the doctor is found dead, a female psychiatrist, who has fallen in love with him, tries to find out who he really is and who really killed the doctor; the surreal dream sequences in this movie were designed by Salvador Dali!) starring Ingrid Bergman (billed as "Ingrid Bergman's First Picture since winning the Academy Award"; as a psychiatrist!), Gregory Peck, Michael Chekhov (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Leo G. Carroll, Donald Curtis, Rhonda Fleming (in her first real role, as a nymphomaniac!), Norman Lloyd, John Emery, Regis Toomey, Addison Richards, and Art Baker. Note that Rhonda Fleming was just 22 and had not had any real parts before being cast in this movie. But when she learned she was a "nymphomaniac", she said "I didn't even know what a nymphomaniac was. My mother and I had to look it up in the dictionary."! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: This twenty-four sheet was printed in 15 sections. Note that this 24-sheet has an unusual history to it! In the late 1960s, the famed Larry Edmund's Bookshop in Hollywood discovered four or five examples of this poster (I don't remember the exact number), and consigned them to the equally famed Collector's Showcase Auctions run for famed Collector's Bookstore by collectibles legend Howard Lowery! Given the FAR lower prices of movie posters at that time, Collector's Showcase auctioned them off in a very unusual way. They held a "Dutch" auction, inviting people to submit bids, and the four (or five) highest bidders got the posters at the prices they bid! The consignor of this poster was one of those high bidders. He received the box after he paid for it, opened one end, partially removed the poster to confirm it was all there, and then re-closed the box, and it has sat in his bedroom ever since! He sent me the poster in the original box, and I will send the original box (from Collector's Showcase) to the buyer of this poster. Finally, note that I received this poster near to the deadline for the printed catalog, and so, IN THE CASE OF THIS ONE POSTER, I used an image of this poster that I had taken of one of the other examples of the poster. But I have now photographed this poster, and the image you see if that of the actual poster you will buy, if you are the highest bidder, of course! Condition: fine. The poster was printed in fifteen sections. Some of the sections have small tears, creases, and very tiny areas of paper loss at crossfolds, but overall, the poster has survived in about as good condition as one could possibly imagine a 60 year old 20 foot long poster surviving in! The poster is completely unrestored, and the paper is slightly fragile (not surprising given its age), but not at all brittle! Learn More about condition grades
