An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) The Wizard of Oz, the classic 1939 Victor Fleming family magical fantasy adventure musical ("MGM's miracle musical show of shows!"; "It's Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Technicolor triumph!"; "Magnificent in its brilliant Technicolor splendor!"; "At Last It's Here Biggest Sensation Since "Snow White"!"; "The mighty miracle show that is the talk of America!"; "Amazing sights to see! The Tornado, Munchkinland, Horse of a Different Color, Startling Balloon Ascent, The Flying Monkeys, The Tree That Throws Apples"; "Gaiety! Glory! Glamour!"; based on the classic book of the same name by L. Frank Baum; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Judy Garland (as Dorothy), Frank Morgan (in the title role as The Wizard of Oz!), Ray Bolger (as The Scarecrow), Bert Lahr (as The Cowardly Lion), Jack Haley (as The Tin Man), Billie Burke (as Glinda, the Good Witch), Margaret Hamilton (as the Wicked Witch), Charley Grapewin, "The Munchkins", and Toto too! Note that MGM was worried about how well this movie would do at the box office, and they did something we don't remember seeing on any other major movie advertising! One of the taglines says "Biggest sensation since Snow White", which means MGM was advertising a Walt Disney movie, but that shows just how worried they were! Of course, they needn't have worried, because this was a timeless classic that has only improved with age. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this "The Munchkins and Dorothy" lobby card was purchased in Los Angeles many years ago from Bob Colman, noted poster dealer and collector, who for many years sold posters and lobby cards from the legendary "Cozy Theater" collection. The Cozy Theater was a theater in Los Angeles that purchased several examples of each poster and lobby card produced from the mid to late 1930s through the late 1950s. The theater set up its own many "poster exchange", and would lend its posters to other theaters for a fee. In 1968, Bob Colman and his partner purchased the entire collection for $25,000, and over the next 30 years sold it for millions of dollars (and that was with most items being priced at only a few dollars in the late 1960s and early 1970s)! Surely this is one of the most memorable poster finds of all time. It is especially nice that many (but not all) of the items from this collection were stamped on the back with a stamp that read either just "Cozy Theater", or its full address, as items with this stamp can be easily identified as coming from this great collection. Offered in this auction is the "The Munchkins and Dorothy" lobby card from "The Wizard of Oz" (we are selling the other seven cards from The Wizard of Oz as seven separate auctions elsewhere on eBay). Note that all eight of the cards are completely unrestored! The condition of the "The Munchkins and Dorothy" lobby card is as follows: There is a small diagonal chip off of the top left corner. There is a pair of staple holes in the middle of the top blank border and a pinhole in each of the top corners. There are faint smudges around the edges of the card. Other than the above basically minor defects, the card is in quite nice condition! It has a crisp feel to it, indicating it was not handled very much. Note that the red in the left border art area of this one card is not as bright a red as the other seven cards we are selling (although it is more red than most cards I have sold!). While this card is not in quite as top condition as the other cards we are selling, I still can't imagine a collector who would not be very happy to display this great card on their wall, and it is completely unrestored! Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
