An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 19 1/2" x 30" [50 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) Blot it Out, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) War Bond poster ("The Hun - his Mark"; "Blot it Out with Liberty Bonds") encouraging citizens to purchase bonds, and featuring J. Allen St. John art of a bloody hand print. Note that J. Allen St. John is the famous pulp magazine illustrator who drew the dust jackets for all of the early Edgar Rice Burroughs "Tarzan" novels, including "Tarzan of the Apes" in 1914! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: J. Allen St. John Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had some tears and tiny areas of paper loss scattered in the upper left, including a few tiny bits of paper loss in the hand print. It had a few pinholes and small areas of paper loss in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking.
