An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" Movie Still (Learn More) First a Girl, the 1935 Victor Saville English romantic mistaken identity musical comedy ("A great star in a great musical"; "Greater than Evergreen", about a dance hall girl whose boyfriend is desperate for work and takes a job intended for a female singer, and he has to dress as a woman, and then he loses his voice, and his girlfriend pretends to be a man pretending to be a woman!) starring Jessie Matthews, Sonnie Hale, Anna Lee, Griffith Jones, and Alfred Drayton. Note that if this plot seems familiar, it is because it was the first English movie version of "Victor and Victoria" and it was remade several times in later years, most notably in 1982 by Blake Edwards, starring Julie Andrews. Also note that Jessie Matthews was married to her costar Sonnie Hale in real life, and their marriage was very similar to that in the various versions of A Star is Born, in that his career went downhill as hers rose dramatically!
