A mighty drama"; set in 1879, 30 years after the great gold rush; businesses are using hydraulic drilling machines to extract gold deep within the ground, but their machines are ruining the crops of nearby farmers, and George Brent is a geologist who helps the farmers against the miners, and he falls in love with the daughter of a farmer) starring George Brent, Olivia de Havilland, Claude Rains, Margaret Lindsay, Barton MacLane, John Litel, Tim Holt (in one of his earliest roles!), Willie Best, and George 'Gabby' Hayes. Note that this movie is almost completely forgotten today, likely because it is missing a well remembered leading male Warner Bros. star like Errol Flynn or James Cagney, but the movie is incredibly relevant today, because it is very similar to the current day problems caused by oil fracking! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: This was printed by Associated Displays Corporation which was a company based in New York City. Before it was discovered by noted poster dealer/historian Walter Reuben, collectors did not know the name of this company (and thought it to be located in the Midwest), and it is often referred to as the "other company" (and we will continue to refer to it that way, since collectors know it that way). From 1936 to roughly 1941, this company printed its own one-sheets and lobby card sets (and a very few inserts, half-sheets, three-sheets, 40x60s and stills) for three major studio movies (Warner Brothers, Paramount and United Artists, but no other studios). The items almost always feature a tiny legal disclaimer and cast credits only. The posters and lobby cards are from the original release of the movie, and almost always have completely different artwork from the regular studio release. They did this by combining elements from different film scenes onto one poster or card. Sometimes, "other company" posters have images that are the equal of those from the regular studio release posters. Note that these lobby cards have been trimmed and they now measure 10 3/4" x 13 1/2" [27 x 34 cm]. Condition: good to very good. Each card was roughly handled at upper left and there are creases and smudges in that area. The card pictured at upper left has a pencil mark at right.
