A 1964 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian One-Panel (known in Italy as a "2 Fogli") Movie Poster (1p; measures 39" x 55") (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief, the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock romantic crime mystery thriller ("It's a web of romance and suspense that spins you from delight to danger - then spirals to an explosive climax on the fabulous Riviera!"; "Based on the novel by David Dodge"; "Screenplay by John Michael Hayes"; about a retired jewel thief living on the Riviera, and there is a string of daring jewel robberies, so naturally, he is the lead suspect, and he decides to find the true thief himself, and he is aided by a beautiful rich young woman and her mother!) starring Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Jessie Royce Landis, John Williams, Charles Vanel, Brigitte Auber, Rene Blancard, Georgette Anys, and Jean Martinelli. Note that Cary Grant had announced his retirement from movies in 1953, but he was lured out of retirement by Hitchcock to make this one. Also note that Jessie Royce Landis, who had played Grant's mother in "North by Northwest", this time played his potential mother-in-law, and yet, she was only eight years older than Grant, who had aged very well! Important Added Info: Note that we have sold photobustas from the first release of this movie in Italy, but the first release Italian one-panel are incredibly rare. The poster offered here is from a re-release and while it is not dated, it does match the 1964 re-release Italian 2p posters, and we feel it is likely from 1964. Condition: good. The poster had paper loss at the bottom two crossfolds and many creases and vertical tears in the middle horizontal foldline, with small paper loss in a couple of areas in the left and right ends of that foldline. There were many scattered small tears in parts of the other foldlines and some creases, tears, scuffs, and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. There was a large semi-circular tear above and below the left center of the poster, entirely in the blue border area. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer linenbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. The poster was backed onto a thin linen, and over the years it has picked up many creases down the left and right edges of the excess linen, but not in the poster itself. If I owned this great poster, I would certainly have it professionally re-backed. It would require a healthy amount of paint restoration, but after proper linenbacking, the poster would look quite nice (although it would likely have a "restored" look to it). Please do not bid on this poster unless you have carefully read the above and have studied our super-sized image. Learn More about condition grades
