Slingin' Sammy Baugh (born Samuel Adrian Baugh) was a famous professional football sports player was a Texas college star quarterback at TCU University. In 1937, he signed with the Washington Redskins and became a star there. Interestingly, he played minor league baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals the next year, but he remained with the Redskins. In 1941, he was signed by Republic Pictures to star in "King of the Texas Rangers", where he was billed as "The Football Sensation". The movie was a huge success, and Republic wanted him to make more movies, but Sammy much preferred playing pro football to acting in movies, and he retired, except for a minor appearance in this movie, where he played a "Professional Football Player".
