ALAN LADD (personality) ALAN LADD (personality) letter, signed OR search current auctions Auction History Result 3f0374 ALAN LADD signed letter 1942 handwritten, thanking columnist for her rave review of him! Date Sold 2/4/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Autographed Letter (measures 7 1/4" x 10 1/2" [18 x 27 cm]). Also included is an original vintage still that measures 8" x 10". (Learn More) Alan Ladd was a major leading actor from the 1930s to the 1960s. Surprisingly, he appeared in a number of movies before he became a major star with his portrayal as a hired killer in "This Gun For Hire" in 1941. Some of his movies include: Shane, The Carpetbaggers, The Glass Key, The Blue Dahlia, and Two Years Before the Mast. He married much older Sue Carol, who had been a major actress in the 1920s and early 1930s, and who had become an agent. They remained married until he passed away in 1964 at the age of 50 from a drug and alcohol overdose. Important Added Info: Note that this letter has been personally autographed (signed) by Alan Ladd! Also note that this auction also includes the envelope this letter was originally mailed in, which has Alan Ladd's name printed on the back (not pictured), as well as an original 1943 8" x 10" still (showing Ladd on military leave while in the army that year) that the letter could be framed with. Mr. Ladd sent it to Harriet Parsons, who was the daughter of Louella Parsons, and who was a newspaper columnist. It is 100% certain that the letter was entirely handwritten by Alan Ladd and signed by him! It has wonderful content. He is writing to thank Miss Parsons for a column she wrote about him (almost surely about his performance in This Gun For Hire, where she must have raved about him), because he says that he always dreamed of being in her column when he was first starting out, and now that he saw it, he knows it wasn't "just a wishful dream for it came true and I am the most thrilled guy in the world". He goes on to add "guess this note sounds rather silly and stupid, for I have a hard time expressing myself with a pen - but I hope you will realize the fact and read between my badly written lines and know that I want to thank you so much"! Our consignor is a longtime dealer who acquired this signed item among many other purchases in his inventory, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good. The letter is in nice condition, as is the original vintage still (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
