An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures approximately 3" x 4") (Learn More) Bird of Paradise, the 1932 King Vidor South Seas tropical island jungle romantic adventure thriller ("It happened in Hawaii!"; from the play by Richard Walton Tully; about a handsome South Seas sailor who meets the daughter of an island chief, and he falls in love with her, and he plans to stay on the island with her, but the chief tells him that his daughter is promised to a nearby prince, and that she is "taboo" to the sailor; of course, the sailor and the girl defy her father, and go to live on a deserted island, but she becomes afraid that her betrayal will cause the volcano to erupt, and when it does, the island men come to take the daughter back and sacrifice her; the girl and the sailor are both captured and almost die, but his ship returns and rescues them, but the girl fears that her people will die if she leaves, so she returns and throws herself into the volcano!) starring Dolores Del Rio, Joel McCrea, John Halliday, Lon Chaney Jr. (billed as "Creighton Chaney"), Richard 'Skeets' Gallagher, Bert Roach, and Agostino Borgato. Note that this movie has massive similarity to Albert S. Rogell's "Aloha", made the previous year. We don't know if one movie inspired the other, or if there was any controversy at this time over the similarity of the two movies. Important Added Info: Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: very good to fine. The glass slide itself is in nice condition and the cardboard holder has some minor smudges (as can be seen in our super-sized images).
