An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 33" x 40 1/2" [84 x 103 cm]) (Learn More)

Military 5 1/2% Loan (literal translation of the Russian title), the 1916 World War I (WWI) War Bond poster encouraging people to help the war efforts, and featuring artwork of the silhouettes of charging soldiers. Note that this poster was printed in the U.S., but it has a cool Russian image and a Russian title! However, it was displayed in the U.S. (likely in New York City), in order to encourage U.S. citizens (including no doubt those of Russian extraction) to donate to this worthy cause financing ambulances in Russia (Russia was undergoing massive losses during World War I due to their having just had their own revolution).
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Russian war poster! We are also currently auctioning a different poster (with a completely different image), which has the same information at the top and bottom, but on that poster, those are snipes, and it is actually a Russian war loan poster that was "re-purposed" to be used to raise money for this same cause.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had some creases and scuffs scattered throughout, more so around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
