An Original Vintage 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Television Still (Learn More) The Sid Caesar Show, the 1963 - 1964 comedy sketch variety television (TV) series starring Sid Caesar, Joey Forman, Gisele MacKenzie, Marilyn Hanold, Bea Arthur and more. This was a legendary early TV comedy show that had a massive influence on all TV comedy that followed it. Not only was this because of the structure of the show, but also because of the legendary talent connected with it, not just the actors, a few of whom are listed above, but also because of the writers, who went on to unbelievably successful careers, including Mel Brooks, Larry Gelbart, Carl Reiner, Neil Simon, Woody Allen, Aaron Ruben, and Howard Morris (who was Ernest T. Bass on The Andy Griffith Show, but who also was an important writer on that show). Not very well remembered today is Mel Tolkin, who was the head writer on this show, and he went on to write Important Added Info: Note that we are listing this still under "The Sid Caesar Show", which was a series of shows that actually started in 1958, and Sid Caesar had earlier been in "Your Show of Shows" from 1950 to 1954. As noted above, there were many legendary writers who got their start on all these programs. We think that the information about exactly who wrote which shows that is on the IMDb is incomplete and in some cases incorrect. That's what makes this great candid still so frustrating! It shows Sid Caesar and head writer Mel Tolkin looking at Mel Brooks standing on a desk reading a script, while Woody Allen looks on bemused, BUT we can find no show where all four of these legends are credited together (Allen did not first work with Sid Caesar until 1958 at the earliest, and by then, Mel Tolkin was no longer with the show). So can anyone explain exactly what show these people were working on (and beware that there are many images like this on the Internet, and quite a few have incorrect attributions as to what show they are from)?
