An Original Vintage Deluxe 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm] Spook Show Still (Learn More) Asylum of Horrors, the 1946 Spook Show ("On stage"; "In person FRANKENSTEIN MONSTER Jack Wyman's version"). This was a still for a "spook show" of the 1940s ("spook shows" started in the 1930s, and continued into the late 1960s, with their greatest prominence in the late 1940s and 1950s). Local theaters would book three to five low budget movies, and then advertise them as a late night "spook show". Often they would have "live" acts on stage (sometimes famous actors who had appeared in monster movies would appear on stage in full make up, and sometimes it would be local actors dressed as monsters), and often the posters would make outrageous promises (sometimes they might say a person would be beheaded on stage, etc!). Not too many of the spook show posters or stills survive (almost all the known surviving ones are window cards, some of which are 14" x 22", and some of which are 22" x 28", and the shows certainly had very limited runs). Note that a perpetual calendar shows that the date listed on a poster we previously had for this title corresponds to 1940 or 1946, and we think it is likely it is from 1946. If anyone knows more about this specific spook show or this still, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Important Added Info: Note that almost all the "Spook Show" items we have ever sold focus on the monsters (for obvious reasons). This wacky still shows two sexy showgirls (they are not the sexiest showgirls we have ever seen, but we have a feeling the budget for this Spook Show was extremely low, so they likely did as good as they could!). Condition: fair. There are stains around the edges. There are staple holes in the corners with paper loss in the top right corner. There are major creases in the right of the still and a tear at top center that goes into the girl's forehead. Someone put tape on the back of the creases in the lower right. Please do not bid on this still unless you can accept its defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
