An Original Vintage German Campaign Book (measures 8 1/2" x 11 1/2" [22 x 29 cm]; 24 pages) (Learn More)

Bavaria Filmkunst 1940-41, the 1940 German campaign book featuring art and information about upcoming Bavaria Film productions such as Kameraden, Flucht, Philine, Im Schatten des Berges and many, many more! Of special note is a movie advertised that was directed by G.W. Pabst, legendary German director who was still working for the Nazis at this late date (sadly, he was planning to emigrate to the U.S., but he was arrested in France and forcibly brought back to Germany, where he made two movies for Joseph Goebbels, and this book advertises one of them). Note that this book has much artwork for the movies that were being made at that time, and some of the art is signed (some of the art is quite nice, but we have never heard of the artists, surely because they were members of the Nazi party and either did not survive World War II, or had difficulty finding work after the war). We have included images of the cover of the book and several of the interior pages (and we did not make a big effort to find the best ones, and we really wish we could have pictured them all!). Note that even though this campaign book was sent to many theater owners, it appears that very few examples have survived (and surely German editions of campaign books are even more rare, both because of German World War II paper drives, and because the ones made during World War II have Nazi content!). I have been a collector of campaign books and related material for many years, and I know for certain that this campaign book is extremely rare!
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this German campaign book!
