Date Sold 6/17/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Trade-Ad (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) The Perils of Pauline, the 1947 George Marshall biographical movie actress comedy ("The LIFE, LOVES and THRILLS of Pearl White, the great serial queen...who dared a thousand dangers to make the movies famous!"; "The wonder show of today about the first wonder-star of the screen!"; "The Whole Spectacular Inside Story of Hollywood's First Queen of the Screen!"; "Her Beauty... Her Love... Her Daring... Brought the Screen Its Greatest Thrills!"; about actress Pearl White, famous star of the most memorable silent serial, "The Perils of Pauline") starring Betty Hutton (as Pearl White), John Lund, Billy De Wolfe, William Demarest, Constance Collier, Frank Faylen, and William Farnum. Note that Pearl White is of course the most famous female silent serial star, but after many injuries from her roles, she decided that she wanted to quit serials, and she turned to "serious acting", but she became addicted to painkillers after a back injury. She retired in 1924 and passed away in 1938, when she was just 49. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that from the 1920s on, studios would create elaborate trade ads, often in full color, and often using the finest artists of the day. They would run these ads in their studio yearbooks and exhibitor magazines, and they would also print those trade ads separately and mail them individually to theater owners, trying to get them to book that specific movie. Sometimes those books and magazines are separated and the ads, which now greatly resemble the individually printed trade ads, are sold individually. The trade ad offered here was removed from a yearbook or magazine. It can be framed and displayed (but many trade ads have different images on each side, so one must choose which side to display if it is framed!). Condition: very good.
