An Undated (probably 1970s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Two-Panel (known in Italy as a "4 Fogli") Movie Poster (2p; measures 55" x 78" [140 x 198 cm]) (Learn More)

The Circus, the 1928 Charlie Chaplin silent slapstick big top circus comedy ("Chaplin's uproarious escapades under the Big Top.") starring Charlie Chaplin (Charles Chaplin; as the Tramp), Al Ernest Garcia, Merna Kennedy, Harry Crocker, George Davis, and Tiny Sanford. Note that Chaplin won an Oscar for "versatility and genius in acting, writing, directing and producing The Circus". Though initially nominated for Best Actor, the Academy decided to remove Chaplin's name from the competitive classes and give him a Special Award instead.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster is from the 1970s, but it certainly appears that the Italian distributor reused artwork either from the very first Italian release, or from an early Italian release, because the image has a much "older" look to it, and the artwork is really great! Also note that this Italian two-panel was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Also note that the theater that used this poster taped the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces).

Condition: fair to good. The poster is very fragile and has separation, tears, and some tiny paper loss on parts of many foldlines, and many conservation tape repairs on the back. The poster is in urgent need of expert professional restoration. But the poster is mostly "all there", and after linenbacking by a talented professional, the poster will look fantastic, and it will likely require little paint restoration within the image. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored!
