An Original Vintage Theatrical Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (released in other English-speaking countries as "Abbott and Costello Meet the Ghosts"), the 1948 Charles T. Barton monster horror spoof comedy ("It's a grand New idea for Fun!"; the eighth Universal Frankenstein movie, and this time they added their #1 comedy team to both liven up the series, and to inject comedy; many people fondly remember this as their favorite of the 1940s Frankenstein movies!; "Jeepers! The Creepers are after Bud and Lou!"; "The laughs are MONSTERous! Bud and Lou are in a stew when they tangle with the Titans of Terror!"; "The monsters of menace vs the masters of Mirth!") starring Bud Abbott, Lou Costello (Abbott and Costello), Lon Chaney Jr. ("The Wolf Man played by Lon Chaney"), Bela Lugosi (returning as Dracula after being long absent from the role; "Dracula played by Bela Lugosi"), Glenn Strange (in the title role, playing the Frankenstein monster; "The Monster played by Glenn Strange"), Lenore Aubert, Jane Randolph, Frank Ferguson, Charles Bradstreet, and Vincent Price (in a cute cameo, as the voice of The Invisible Man at the end of the movie!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a rare first release 1948 insert that does not get offered for sale or at auction very much. Partly, this is likely due to the movie getting a very quick re-release in 1956, which might have used up all of the original posters at that time, and it is also likely partly due to this movie being incredibly popular for both Spook Shows and Saturday matinees! A talented restorer gel backed the poster (meaning they backed the poster onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the defects described below, and then removed the gel backing, so that the poster still exactly looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. Condition: good to very good. The poster was gel backed (see above). This particular poster had many pinholes and small stains around the edges. It had a few small tears in the borders and two tiny areas of paper loss in the bottom blank border. There was yellowed tape on the front and back of each corner. There were a few small stains, scratches, and scuffs scattered throughout the poster. The poster was separating on the foldlines and there was clear tape on the back of parts of each fold. There was a partial horizontal fold 1 1/2" below the regular middle fold and one 1 1/2" below the regular bottom fold. I go into extreme detail about the condition defects because of the value of this poster! It was gel backed by a talented professional and expert restoration was performed to the above defects. It displays well from a reasonable viewing distance, but you can see some signs of the defects and the restoration of those defects, especially from close up. But I think the new owner of this poster will be quite happy to display it on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
