Date Sold 5/17/2015Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1948 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (SpanUS 1sh; printed in Spanish in the U.S. for Spanish speaking audiences; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) It Happened One Night, the classic 1934 Frank Capra (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) runaway-heiress-with-undercover-reporter-who-are-complete-opposites-but-fall-in-love-anyway romantic screwball comedy ("Together for the first time!"; "From the Cosmopolitan Magazine story by Samuel Hopkins Adams"; "Screenplay by Robert Riskin"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Clark Gable (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Claudette Colbert (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Walter Connolly, Roscoe Karns, Alan Hale Sr., Ward Bond, and Jameson Thomas. Note that this is a wonderful movie that contains many memorable scenes (perhaps most notably when Gable "instructs" Colbert on how to hitchhike), but it is also memorable for the scene where Gable reveals that he was not wearing an undershirt, which caused undershirt sales to plunge nationwide, and they never recovered! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this one-sheet was printed in the United States for use at theaters with Spanish speaking audiences (this was done most by MGM, starting in the 1930s, but it was done by the other major studios as well, and often the posters would have the exact same image as the English language poster, except the writing would be in Spanish, and on posters from the 1930s and 1940s there would be an added "Toda en Espanol!", meaning "Entirely in Spanish!", printed within the image). Sometimes posters from the 1960s or later will have the word "SPANISH" printed in the bottom border (or sometimes stamped on the back of the poster). Condition: good. The poster was folded in half an extra time resulting in a light vertical foldline at left and right and there are several other creases scattered in various areas throughout. There are some pinholes around the edges of the poster. There is a long scuff at upper right across the lower portion of Colbert's face. There is some degree of separation in the crossfolds. A few of the defects as described above are repaired with tape from the back. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid.
