An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Two-Panel (known in Italy as a "4 Fogli") Movie Poster (2p; measures 55" x 76 1/2" [140 x 194 cm]) (Learn More) Luce nelle tenebre (literally translates to "Light in the Darkness"), the 1941 Mario Mattoli Italian romantic love triangle mistaken identity melodrama (a really cool movie about a handsome young engineer who is blinded in an industrial accident, and his fair weather girlfriend leaves him and runs off with a musician; but her decent sister fools him by pretending to be his girlfriend, and she stays with him and takes care of him!) starring Fosco Giachetti, Alida Valli, Clara Calamai, Enzo Billitoti, and Carlo Capanini. Note that this was the first of several movies where Alida Valli and Fosco Giachetti appeared together, and they became a much loved team in several movies together (and of course, Valli starred in "The Third Man" after World War II!). It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Luigi Martinati Important Added Info: Note that this poster (which is a "country of origin" poster) is from the first Italian release of this movie in 1941! Italian posters from World War II or before are incredibly rare, due to the massive paper shortages in Italy at that time. Also note that this Italian two-panel was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Condition: good to very good. There is paper loss in the top left corner, but it is very fortunate that it is in the solid background area, and it looks like it would not be difficult for a restorer to recreate. There is staining on the back of that portion of the poster (this is the part that was on the outside when it was fully folded), but it does not have much effect on the front at all, and there is some separation on parts of some foldlines. Otherwise, the poster is in surprisingly good condition, and it would seem that after a simple linenbacking by a talented professional, the poster will look fantastic, and it will only mostly need restoration in the exact area of paper loss described above, with only slight paint restoration anywhere else in the poster!
