An Original Vintage Campaign Book (measures 11 1/2" x 14" [29 x 36 cm]; 59 pages, plus two supplements) (Learn More) Universal 1940-41, the 1940 Universal Studios campaign book ("The Most Progressive Organization in the Industry") featuring upcoming Universal movies and stars from movies that were planned for production by Universal in the coming year. The campaign book includes a large number of fold-out pages, where the page when folded over shows an ad for a specific movie, and when you fold out the page, the inside is a two-page ad for the same movie (and the facing page of each is blank). In addition to the fold-outs, there are a number of regular single page ads, and the facing pages to those ads are also blank. The campaign book contains mostly full color images of ads for the major upcoming Universal films including Deanna Durbin (two productions), Back Street, Irene Dunne, three Frank Lloyd productions, two Marlene Dietrich productions (Seven Sinners & Countess of New Orleans), The Bank Dick (W.C. Fields), a Bing Crosby production, two Gloria Jean productions, The Modern Monte Cristo (Victor McLaglen), The Invisible Woman, Argentine Nights, The Black Cat, The Dead End Kids & The Little Tough Guys Together, The Monster of Zombor (Karloff & Lugosi), Moonlight in Hawaii, Swing With Bing (Bing Crosby golfing short), four serials (including images of the 24-sheets from each), and much more! Also note that, as was often the case with these campaign books, some of the movies advertised were either never made, had their titles changed before they were released, or were made with different casts than those announced in the campaign book! Note that in the case of this particular campaign book, there is a really cool ad for "The Monster of Zombor", which likely turned into "Black Friday", and it also has an ad for "Modern Monte Cristo" starring Victor McLaglen, which appears to have never been made! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this campaign book, and that was 13 years ago! Apparently, after the book went to press, Universal signed Frank Lloyd to direct three movies, and they included a 9" x 10 1/2" single-sided sheet promoting those movies. They also included a 10 1/2" x 22" sheet with a chart of all their upcoming films, with headshots of the stars down the left. See our images of both of these rare supplements. Note: We have 13 images of the campaign books in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 13 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 3. Condition: very good to fine. The covers have some minor scuffing and staining, but otherwise, the book is in really nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
