A 1951 Re-Release Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Bodyguard, the 1944 William Hanna & Joseph Barbera (Hanna-Barbera) Tom & Jerry feline cat family mouse animated animation cartoon comedy short (Jerry saves Spike the dog from the dogcatcher, and in gratitude, he becomes Jerry's bodyguard, and he gives him a whistle to blow any time he needs to be rescued from Tom) featuring the voice of Billy Bletcher (as Tom and Spike). Note that Tom and Jerry is a classic series of cartoons created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The first one was created in 1940, and there as a total of 114 cartoons through 1957. Seven of these won Academy Awards for Best Cartoon, tying for most wins with Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies. There were around 50 more cartoons created after the first run ended, through the early 2000s, and there were also TV shows based on these classic characters. Some people have criticized the cartoons for their "excessive violence", but actually no blood or gore was ever shown in any of them, and this type of violence is commonly referred to as "cartoon violence". Many of the Tom and Jerry cartoons are extremely clever and make wonderful use of music. They are not nearly as appreciated today as they should be, but in their day, they were among the most popular cartoons of the 1940s! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one from this 1951 re-release in all our years of auctioning (and we have only auctioned ONE other movie paper item which was the first release one-sheet for this cartoon short in 2015, and it auctioned for $2,300!). Condition: very good. The poster has creases around the edges and there is a fine crease at lower left. There are some small creases along the upper horizontal fold and there are some small diagonal ones surrounding the top crossfold (which has tiny paper loss). There is a small stain on back at upper center that very slightly bleeds through to the front (just above the "E" of "JERRY", but it is not very noticeable or distracting when the poster is displayed - see our image). The very rare poster is otherwise in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
