An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 10" x 13" [25 x 33 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Tugboat Annie, the 1933 Mervyn LeRoy nautical seafaring sailor romantic comedy ("America's Sweethearts Together Again!"; "Based on the Saturday Evening Post stories by Norman Reilly Raine") starring Marie Dressler (in the title role as Tugboat Annie), Wallace Beery, Robert Young, Maureen O'Sullivan, and Willard Robertson. Note that this movie was a big hit. MGM would have surely made a sequel, but Dressler passed away the following year. In 1940, they tried to revive the series with the sequel, "Tugboat Annie Sails Again", seven years later, with Marjorie Rambeau taking over the lead role. It likely was not very successful, because there were no more sequels with her, and it was not until 1945 that MGM tried yet again, this time with Jane Darwell in the lead role in "Captain Tugboat Annie". There were no more sequels!

Important Added Info: Note that based on what the snipe on this still says, it is from some sort of MGM 20th anniversary celebration, which likely took place in 1944 or 1945. We don't know if this movie actually played in theaters then. If anyone knows more about this celebration, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this still measures 10" x 13" [25 x 33 cm]. Please do not bid on it thinking that it is 11" x 14". Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock.
