An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 19 3/4" x 30 1/4" [50 x 77 cm]) (Learn More) Blot it Out, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) War Bond poster ("The Hun - his Mark"; "Blot it Out with Liberty Bonds") encouraging citizens to purchase bonds, and featuring J. Allen St. John art of a bloody hand print. Note that J. Allen St. John is the famous pulp magazine illustrator who drew the dust jackets for all of the early Edgar Rice Burroughs "Tarzan" novels, including "Tarzan of the Apes" in 1914! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: J. Allen St. John Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had paper loss in the left blank border and a 2" tear in the upper left border. There was a pinhole in the background to the left of the hand print. There was paper loss in the top right blank corner and tiny paper loss 2" to the left of it. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did little restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
