Abramov art of several hands signing arms bills that have turned into a brick wall that won't let a vehicle full of missiles get through. On March 15, 1950, the World Peace Council approved the Stockholm Appeal, calling for an absolute ban on nuclear weapons. The appeal was initiated by the French Communist physicist Frederic Joliot-Curie, gathered petitions allegedly signed by 273,470,566 persons (including the entire adult population of the U.S.S.R.). In 1975, the Presidium of the World Peace Council, after observing the 15th anniversary of the Stockholm Appeal, called on all governments, social movements, and organizations advocating peace and progress to join forces for a new world offensive against the arms race in the struggle for universal and total disarmament.
