Date Sold 4/29/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Swedish Movie Poster (measures 27 1/4" x 39 1/2" [69 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) Henker, Frauen und Soldaten (released in the U.S. in 1940 as "Hangmen, Women and Soldiers"), the 1935 Johannes Meyer German World War I (WWI) romantic love triangle spy espionage war melodrama (an incredibly complicated and implausible story of a German pilot in 1918, who has a cousin who is his twin who is a Russian general, and they both get involved with the same Russian woman, and the pilot gets to take the place of the general, and of course, the woman is torn between her love for him and revealing the truth to help save her country, and in the end, she does denounce him, but he escapes anyway, and the Germans attack the Russians with his secret knowledge, and they succeed in winning the battle, but both the pilot and his lover are killed!) starring Hans Albers (in a dual role), Charlotte Susa, Jack Trevor, Ernst Dumcke, and Aribert Wascher. Note that this movie came out when the Nazis were in power, and all movies had to be approved by the censors, and this movie was (no doubt because it cast the Germans in a good light). Joseph Goebbels himself was a fan of the movie. On December 11, 1935, he wrote in his diary that this movie was "an exciting and adorable film with Albers." After the war, it was banned by the Allies. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Eric Rohman Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had minor wear on the foldlines. It had missing red color in the top right corner, which looks to be a printing defect and not a defect caused by paper loss (perhaps the paper got folded while it was being printed?). Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
